Obituary of Joan Ann Crialese

Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Ann Masucci Crialese, known affectionately as “Joanie,” on March 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home in Rockaway Township, NJ. She was 73 years old.

Joanie was a woman whose heart was as boundless as her love for her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she dedicated her life to those she loved. Whether it was through her nurturing spirit, her unwavering support, or her contagious laughter, Joanie touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her love for her family was the foundation of everything she did. She was the one that showed up, got involved or cheered from the sidelines.

With the birth of her children, Joanie became a stay-at-home mom, raising her kids. After many years, she went back to work and was offered a job at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Boonton, as the school secretary. She quickly befriended the faculty, the students and families and earned her invitation to sing her heart out at the yearly talent show. How she loved to sing! After leaving the school, she began working for the Rockaway Borough Police Department as the police secretary. It is here where she spent a long career and retired after 25 years of service. Joanie had an extraordinary ability to make each person feel seen, heard and deeply cared for.

As her kids grew older, Joanie and her husband Pete would do some traveling, both alone and with other couples, but they enjoyed the comforts of their home the most. Having friends over for dinner or for trivia night, or simply just a cup of coffee, those were her fondest memories.

Joanie's greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. Affectionately known as “Nanny's little angels,” Her love for them knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them—whether it was baking cookies, reading stories, or playing games, her love for them was limitless.

In addition to her deep love for her family, Joanie had a passion for simple pleasures. Shopping, oh how she loved to shop! Whether it was at a store, the mall, on tv or online, Joanie was born to shop. She enjoyed reading, finding solace in the pages of a good book, and baking—sharing her sweet creations with those around her. Her Christmas cookies were legendary, especially her butter cookies! Her secret ingredients included yelling/throwing her cookie press and cursing. Pete’s favorite are her biscotti, the recipe passed on to Joan from her mother-in-law. Her home was always a place of warmth, filled with love, and the unmistakable scent of her delicious treats.

Joanie’s generosity and kindness knew no bounds. She was always there for those in need, offering support, a listening ear, or a helping hand. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy—one of love, kindness, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Joanie will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Peter Crialese. Devoted children Nicole Leo and Robert (Amy) Scheskowsky. Cherished grandchildren Kaylie, Brielle, Bryce, Tyler, Chase, and Ava. As well as her older brother Jay (Judy) Masucci, and friends, all of whom were blessed to have had her in their lives.

Though Joanie has left this world, her spirit will live on in the memories she created, the love she gave, and the lessons she imparted. Her family and friends will forever hold her close in their hearts, finding comfort in the many cherished moments they shared with her.

In accordance with Joanie’s wishes, all services will be private.

Rest in peace, Joanie. You will be forever loved and never forgotten.
