Obituary of Sue Carroll Howell
Sue Carroll Howell (November 12, 1942 - March 6, 2025)
Sue Carroll Howell passed away peacefully at home in Mountain Lakes, NJ at the age of 82.
Born in Richmond, VA to Rev. John Floyd Carroll and Lucy Aline Carroll (Bonney). The daughter of a Methodist minister, she lived in countless parsonages throughout Virginia, with her various church families being central to her life. She never met a stranger and maintained life-long contact with many of the parishioners from the churches her father served.
Sue married her beloved, Don, in 1962, with her father officiating the union, and her brother John giving away the bride. She spent her life supporting her husband's career, and nurturing her children and grandchildren. After retirement, Sue would host "Camp Grammy" for her grandchildren each summer at her home on the East River in Bohannon, VA.
She is survived by her brother, John F. Carroll II (Carol) of Chester, VA, sister Jean Boucher (Jack) of Canada, son Brian (Ann) of Mountain Lakes, NJ, daughter Susan Solomon (Zach) of Charleston, SC, son Keith of Mathews, Virginia, grandsons Ethan, Ronan, and Noah, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, and her loving husband of 59 years, Donald H. Howell.
A Memorial service will be scheduled later this year at her home in Virginia.
