Obituary of James Patrick Hegarty

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of James Patrick Hegarty, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully left us on February 26, 2025, at the age of 89 surrounded by his loving family.  He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and unwavering love for his family.

Born in Morristown, NJ, he attended Bayley-Ellard High School, served in the US Army then graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  In 1964 he married Kathleen (nee Farrelly) and resided in Parsippany until moving to Denville NJ in 2014.

Jim was the epitome of a wonderful man—his love for his family was boundless, and everything he did was for them. A loving husband to Kathleen, Jim and Kathleen shared a beautiful bond that withstood the test of time, built on mutual respect, love, and an extraordinary partnership. Together, they created a home full of warmth, laughter, and endless memories. Jim was a father who lived to serve and support his children, a man who would do anything for their happiness and success. His dedication to his children,  Kathy, Jim and Karen, was unmatched, always guiding them with strength, wisdom, and compassion.

Proud of his Irish roots from County Donegal, Jim and Kathleen became active members for many years at the Irish American Association of Northwest New Jersey.  He passed on the values of resilience, hard work, and loyalty to those he loved. Together with his wife they founded WIRE CLOTH MANufacturers, Inc. and incorporated in New Jersey in 1965. Through their tireless efforts they expanded the  business to Texas, Florida and Oklahoma which ensured that his children would carry on the legacy for years to come.

After retiring, he spent time in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida—a place that quickly became his sanctuary. Jim’s dedication and focus were unmatched.   He shared with  everyone in the family his obsessions with fishing, tennis, boating, and the stock market.

Jim's family meant everything to him, and his greatest joy was watching them grow. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Kathleen, and his children, Kathy (Brian) Blaber, Jim (Jennifer) Hegarty, and Karen (Michael) Wright.  Along with his eight grandchildren, Shane and Shannon Blaber, Brendan (fiance Dana), Jack, and McKenzie Hegarty, Caitlin, Bridget and Owen Wright. He will also be missed by his brother John (Kathie) Hegarty, as well as several nieces and nephews whose lives he touched.

Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited in heaven with his beloved parents James and Kathleen (McCarthy) Hegarty,  his sister Ann and her husband Richard Gentile.

He was a true family man, a provider, a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. His loss leaves a profound emptiness, but the love and lessons he imparted will carry on through the generations.

Relatives and friends are welcome to honor Jim on Tuesday, March 4th from 4 – 7pm at Norman Dean Funeral Home, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ. A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, March 5th at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church, Denville, NJ. Interment will be held privately.

In addition to the beautiful memories held by his family, we invite those who knew Jim to share their favorite stories, memories, or words of tribute on normandean.com. Rest in peace, Jim. Your devotion to others, your love of life, and your unwavering patriotism will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything you gave, and for the love you shared with all of us.
