Obituary of David Edward Bishop

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Edward Bishop of Rockaway, NJ passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025.  Dave was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in April of 1929, graduated High School from St. Peter’s Prep, and promptly joined the US Navy serving on the USS Mississippi and receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1952.

He had a lifelong career in telecommunications, beginning with AT&T under ocean cabling to Europe then opening his own company, Equicon, working in the nascent satellite communications field.

Dave earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Brooklyn College over 7 years of night classes all the while taking early morning piano lessons.

Dave always had a passion for music and the arts, and even wine making in his later years. He was a devoted Catholic and shared his time and talent in the music ministry. Dave sang for numerous parishes for over 50 years, as well as NYC choirs.

In 1962, a chance meeting in Paris, France culminated with his marrying Carroll Grant of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and they spent the next 62 years building a life together in New Jersey; first in Berkeley Heights, then River Vale, and finally retiring in Rockaway.  Moving to Fox Hills opened another adventure where he served in many capacities and one term on the Board of Directors.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Carroll Grant and his three children Karen (AJ) Johnson of Branchburg, NJ, Diane (Bill) Stevens of Niantic, CT and Paul (Valerie) Bishop of Morristown NJ, and his grandchildren, Katie Bishop, Carolyn Bishop, and Damon Johnson.

Dave will complete his earthly journey with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Presentation on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:15 AM.  Private cremation will follow.  Dave respectfully requested any donations be sent to the Music Ministry Choir, c/o Bob Rooney, Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Rd., Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458.

Rest in peace, Dave, you will be forever missed.
