Obituary of Cookie Herlihy
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia "Cookie" Herlihy, who left us peacefully at home in Denville, NJ, on January 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Cookie was a vibrant spirit who lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Cookie met the love of her life, Douglas Keith Herlihy, Sr., and the two were married on June 24, 1964. Their nearly 61 years together was a testament to their enduring devotion. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Douglas II and Frank, and built a family full of warmth and happiness. In 2014, Cookie and Douglas made the move to Denville, where she continued to surround herself with her loved ones, creating even more precious memories.
Cookie’s passion for life was evident in the things that brought her joy. She was an avid knitter, delighting in making baby sweaters for her grandchildren, each one stitched with love. She loved the water, with a special fondness for swimming, and found joy in the games she played on her iPad—whether it was Candy Crush or another fun challenge, she was always ready for a bit of friendly competition. Cookie had a playful side, enjoying her favorite things like YAHTZEE, BINGO, trips to the casino, and a glass of Kahlua with milk—always accompanied by a cigarette. She had an affinity for Betty Boop, her signature style bringing smiles to all who knew her.
Though Cookie’s life was marked by her love for family and fun, it was the simple moments, spent with her dear husband, children, and grandchildren, that truly defined her. Her warmth, humor, and the way she made everyone feel special will be remembered forever.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 61 years, Douglas Keith Herlihy, Sr.; her sons, Douglas Herlihy II and Frank Herlihy; daughter in law Erin Herlihy, and her adored grandchildren, Douglas Herlihy III, Christopher Herlihy, Caitlyn Herlihy, and Collin Herlihy.
Patricia "Cookie" Herlihy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and family. She will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.
Her family invites you to join them in honoring her memory, sharing stories, and remembering the incredible woman she was for a public visitation from 11 – 3PM with a vigil and memory sharing service at 2:30PM on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville NJ 07834.
Share a memory, leave a condolence, or light a candle to continue to let Cookie`s light shine!
