I first met Sue when I started working at The Wilson School. Sue was very friendly and everyone liked her—teachers, students and parents alike. We were also friends with two other teachers, Barb and Betty. The four of us liked to go out to lunch together and see a movie. Sue fondly remembered watching old movies on television with her mother. We were long-time season ticket holders for the New Jersey Shakespeare Theatre. In the summer we would go to either the Grounds for Sculpture or Storm King Art Center. Every December we would attend a concert at the Cloisters in NYC. Sue and I shared an interest in nature and especially gardening. Sue’s yard was the showpiece of her neighborhood because of her beautiful gardens. She definitely had a green thumb. Being a vegetarian, Sue often said that she “wouldn’t eat anything that had eyes.” Sue loved all dogs and would often stop to pet dogs she met and talk with their owners. When Betty’s son married a woman from Japan, Sue learned how to wish the bride happiness in Japanese, which was typical of Sue’s thoughtfulness. When anyone needed help, Sue was always there to lend a helping hand. Sue was the kindest and most caring person that you could ever know. She always saw the best in other people. I have missed Sue’s presence in my life during these past two years but am grateful to her sister Nancy for keeping us up to date on how Sue was doing. I consider myself blessed that Sue was my friend.
