Obituary of David Joseph Guiltinan

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Joseph Guiltinan, of Denville, NJ, passed away surrounded by family at his home on December 20, 2020 after a brave, 14-month battle with glioblastoma.

David was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 31, 1956 and raised in New Milford and Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ by his loving parents Richard Guiltinan, who predeceased him, and Rosemary Dwyer Guiltinan, who survives him.

David attended St. Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, NJ. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Dayton in Ohio and Master of Business Administration from Baruch College in New York. For 38 years, he worked at Flexi-Van Leasing, LLC in Kenilworth, NJ, with a final title of Vice President & Chief Accounting Officer.

David was predeceased by his beloved wife of 31 years Karen Alenikoff Guiltinan in February of 2020.

He is survived by his loving daughters Lauren Guiltinan of Denville, NJ and Carly Guiltinan of Davis, CA, as well as his siblings Richard and his wife Eileen Guiltinan of Irving, TX, Timothy and his wife Margaret Guiltinan of Bedminster, NJ, Martha and her husband Christopher Pesce of Greenlawn, NY, Matthew and his wife Cynthia Guiltinan of Chesterfield, NH, and Edward and his wife Barbara Guiltinan of Chester, NJ, along with many nieces and nephews.

David kept all of those that he loved well-fed and well-laughed. We will always fondly remember his signature coffee and breakfast treats in Montauk, shrimp and ribs on Memorial Day, pumpkin ginger tart on the holidays, and the dinners that he cooked at home. His jokes were clever but effortless, often quietly stated, but enough to make everyone around him burst out in laughter. Often, David could be heard whistling or singing his favorite songs--or his own renditions of them--to himself. David loved to meticulously plan vacations, whether to Disney World or on a cruise through the Caribbean. He loved trips with his cherished pop-up camper, recently upgraded to a massive RV, including weeks spent camping with family in Montauk and weekends enjoying music at the Crawfish Festival. He also enjoyed the small adventures, like a trip to Costco or going on a drive with no particular destination in mind. He loved to entertain his friends and family at the house, where, at the end of the night, we would all congregate to his beloved music room to sing together as he played the guitar. David adored his dogs and his cichlids. He was the biggest fan of his daughters, supporting them in all of their endeavors and always cheering on their college football teams. He will be so sorely missed, but we know that he would want all of us to smile and reflect on the joy that he brought us.

We will be opening our home at 5 Leo Terrace in Denville, NJ on December 28, 2020 to give all who loved David the opportunity for a memorial visitation. We will be taking measures to ensure the safety of all that visit, and ask that you please wear a mask and only come if you are feeling well. To control the volume of people arriving at once, we ask that co-workers come between 12:00-2:00 pm, friends from 2:00-4:00 pm, and family from 4:00-6:00 pm. Please reach out to Lauren or Carly if you cannot make the times that are designated above and would like to come at a different time.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church 179 Baldwin Rd. Parsippany, NJ 07054 on May 29, 2021 at 11:00 am under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834 (www.normandean.com). Afterward, we will be hosting a celebration of his life at our home much like his famous Memorial Day party, which was one of his favorite weekends of the year.
