Joan Bitondo, of Rockaway Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Dover. She was 85 years young.
Born and raised in Summit, she was the youngest of five children. Joan was a hard and dedicated worker her entire life; she worked for American Cannery and Overlook Hospital in the food prep, cook, and waitress industry before finding her niche in manfucturing, retiring from Carbone-Ferraz in Parsippany in the early 90’s. On June 23, 1956 Joan married her soulmate, John Bitondo. Together they purchased their first, and only home, in Rockaway Township and eventually they began a family of their own. Joan had an unrivaled sense of family commitment, honor, and genuine loyalty. She was willingly the caregiver for any relative that needed assistance. The true definition of a Mom – loving, caring, kind-hearted, compassionate – that is what Joan was. She always had a delicious home-cooked meal on the table and her children wanted for nothing. Every year they took vacations to the Jersey Shore, she attended all events, games, concerts, and special occasions, and they never doubted her unconditional love. She will be sorely missed and forever treasured in our hearts.
She leaves only joyful memories to her beloved husband of 63 years, John Bitondo; her adored children, John Bitondo and his wife Stacy of Fair Lawn and Steven Bitondo and his wife Linda of Lake Hopatcong; her cherished granddaughters, Chelsea and Melanie; her loving nieces, Nancy Sowell and Elizabeth Sowell-Zak; her caring brother-in-law, Eugene Bitondo and his wife Irene; and many more extended family and friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24th from 1 – 5 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held on Monday, November 25th at 11 am at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Church, 154 Mt Pleasant Ave, Dover, NJ 07801.
