I’m lighting a candle for my Uncle as well as my Godfather ( and I was reminded frequently by him of being his Goddaughter). LOL. He was my Dad’s youngest brother. My Dad loved calling him his kid brother or Red, Red the chicken head lovingly due to his red hair. Uncle Bob loved life and his family. Always happy and fun. I’ll miss you my Godfather. To Bob, Donald and the DiGiovanna family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I remember Mr. D as a friendly caring dad. As one of the neighborhood kids, Mr. D always greeted us with a warm hello and smile. Sometimes I almost felt like a seventh kid when Bob and Carol would come home and see me watching MASH with the kids downstairs. We had a lot of fun back in those days. Once I even got to work Bingo with Donald and his dad delivering refreshments at St. Mary's church and went with Bob Jr. down to Newark one time to visit him at his work. He jokingly said Bob and I were the reason for his grey hair. He is partially right about that. I'm sorry I cannot attend his service in person but wanted you all to know my thoughts and prayers are with your family. He was a great man and I know he will be greatly missed by all. Mike Bradford

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve known Mr Digiovanna since I was a little kid. He was my baseball coach in little league. Me and Don were on the same team. I used to spend a lot of time at their house I slept over a lot. I was always made to feel like I was family!! I’ll never forget you!! Rest in Peace Mr D

I was so very sorry to hear about the passing of my Uncle Bob. Or, as I always called him, "My Favorite Brooklyn Dodgers Fan". He bought me my first baseball uniform at around age 3. Of course it was a Brooklyn Dodgers Uniform, that did not go over very well with my Dad, a huge Yankee/Joe DiMaggio Fan. But the memories were so wonderful as a child having a Dad that was a Yankee Fan, an Uncle Bob that was a Brooklyn Dodgers Fan, and another Uncle-Jack that was a New York Giants Fan (baseball, not football). I had the opportunity to hear some really great discussions as they took stands as to which team was better. Of course, the Yankees won most of them in the 1950's. Growing up, he and Aunt Carol served as a great model for a marriage. I clearly lost count of how many times, he called his wife (Aunt Carol) his bride. They always interacted so well, and it was abundantly clear how much they loved each other. I had the pleasure of working at the Essex County Courthouse during a few summers, while I was in college. As such, I would often meet Uncle Bob and Uncle Jack for lunch. They never allowed me to even think about picking up the check. I will always recall him, Aunt Carol, and their children stopping by my Dad's home on Christmas Eve to dine on the Feast of the 7 Fishes. He loved seafood. As his older brother, my Dad, got older and did not drive any longer, Uncle Bob and Aunt Carol would take my Dad and Mom out to lunch. I seem to recall that one of their favorites was a Chinese Place in the Denville Area. Having the pleasure to live with my DiGiovanna Grandparents for 3 years while I was attending college, I got to become very aware of how proud they both were of Uncle Bob's Achievements with both his family as well as his rise up the ladder of the Probation Department for Essex County. As he grew older, it was easy to notice just how special his children, grandchildren, and most recently his great grandchild were to him. I had the pleasure of seeing him at his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jim's home this past summer. He still had that glow in his eye when you spoke with him about his family. I have a very memorable photo of him, my Dad, and my Uncle Jack that I attached. It was most likely taken at some holiday event at his home. Just by viewing the photo, I can hear them still debating about the politics in Essex County. God Bless him! He was quite a man. I for one, will truly miss him. His Nephew-Jimmo

BOBBY Di - The leader of the Essex County Probation Department Juvenile where I was a Juvenile Probation Officer working with him for over a decade in the 1980s into the 1990s. Every morning before starting, we would talk and argue about the NY Yankees and baseball with a cup of coffee. At the monthly juvenile meetings, we would argue about everything and anything, something I know we both enjoyed. He won two $10 bets from me, one beating me in badminton even though I am a ranked tennis player. The other, I picked Seles to beat Graf at the US Open when she & I lost. I paid him too. I knew Bobby Di always liked me. After he retired, he called me to congratulate me when my son pitched and won the GNT game. We had a mutual respect, something I appreciated and never will forget. GOD SPEED YOU to the HIGHEST GLORY.

To the DiGiovanni Family, Please accept our condolences on the passing of your Dad, Bob. We enjoyed his and your mom’s company at so many of the Knights of Columbus and St Mary’s festivities.
