Obituary of Harry Richard Johnson

Please share a memory of Harry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Harry “Pal” Johnson, passed away in Forest, Virginia on Friday, September 29th.  He shared 91 years of love and dancing with all who knew him.  A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 4th at 5:30 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Friends and relatives may visit beginning at 3 o’clock that afternoon.  Private burial with his family will take place on Thursday, October 5th.  Flowers are always appropriate.

Pal was born in Jersey City in 1925 to the late Harry and Edith Johnson.  After his schooling, he enlisted into the US Army Air Corp. where he proudly served our country during WWII.  After his honorable discharge, he married his sweetheart Florence (nee Casey) and the couple settled in Kearny and later Whippany to start a family of their own.  Harry worked in sales and made a good life for his wife and sons.  They were parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy and St. Christopher’s for many years.  When he wasn’t working, Pal could be heard around the house and town whistling. He was an excellent whistler.  He loved music, dancing and was the caller at many square dances.  He was also quite talented with his hands.  An accomplished woodworker, Pal was always making beautiful furniture.  This hobby was profitable for him and he was talented enough to work with interior designers along his journey.  This family patriarch has shown us how to celebrate life, as he has celebrated his.

Predeceased by his wives Florence Johnson and Barbara Savage; his friend Harriett Goldsman; and his sister Edie Havens; he leaves happy memories to his sons George (Linda) and Harry (Jacqueline); grandchildren Todd (Anita), Jody (Michael) Johnson, John (Kelly), Sheri Walsh (Scott), and Heather Barberis (Chris); adored great grandchildren Ashley, Olivia, Brielle, Thomas, Erin, Elizabeth and Gabrielle; dear sister Flossie Coughlin and many more dear relatives and friends.
