Obituary of Sally Ann Dankos

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sally Dankos passed away at home in Denville on Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was 76 years old.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, she had lived in Denville for the past 38 years. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre. She worked for Pfizer, Inc. before retiring in 2007.

She was a member of Denville Sunrise Rotary, the Denville Zoning Board of Adjustment, Denville Recreation Committee, Denville Social Services Local Assistance Board and the Board of St. Francis Residential Community.  She had also served on the Board of the Salvation Army in Dover and was a past member of the Denville Kiwanis Club.  Sally was honored to be Denville Rotary Club Citizen of the Year, 1994. She also served as a CCD teacher at St. Mary’s  RC  Church, Denville, volunteered at the St. Clare’s Harvest Festival and was the Warner Lambert corporate liaison to Valleyview Middle School for the Princeton Center for Leadership’s “Partners in Learning Middle Schools Program.”

Sally was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing weekly at St. Francis Residential Community.

Dan’s job with Esso Research and Engineering meant that much of Sally’s married life was spent overseas. The family lived in Catania, Sicily, Milan, Italy and London, England. Sally was in her element when in service to others. While in the UK, she was an active member of the Surrey Wives’ Club; her charity committee raised enough money for a specially equipped van that provided mobility to a man who was a quadriplegic as a result of a car accident.  She was also instrumental in having her committee take on a local facility for disabled women as a special project giving the women a market for their hand-made goods as well as providing an opportunities  for parties and other social activities.

More than anything, Sally loved entertaining family and friends at home. She loved to cook and enjoyed having a large crowd at her annual Christmas party.

She is survived by her daughters, Rose Ann Hastings (Ed) of Wharton, NJ and Carolynne Fereday (Andrew) of London, England. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Melissa and Rebecca Cotreau.

A liturgy of Christian burial will be held Thursday, July 20 at St. Francis at 11 am.  Friends may visit at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville on Wednesday, July 19 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.   In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Denville Animal Shelter, c/o Meredith Petrillo, Denville Police Department, 1 St. Mary’s Place, Denville, NJ 07834.
