Mary Ellen Sampson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 60 years young. Born and raised in Merrick, Long Island, she attended Sacred Heart Academy, and then went on to Fordham University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Mary Ellen started her career at Peat Marwick as a certified public accountant in NYC, and then went on to work at Citibank. It was in Long Island that she met her husband Joe and they married in 1982 and started their family. In 1989, the Sampson’s relocated to Mountain Lakes, NJ, where they continued to grow their family. While raising her children, Mary Ellen was the Treasurer for two non-profit organizations for over ten years, The Medical Needs Foundation and Lake Drive Foundation, both out of Morris County. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church where she taught CCD. Her children were her pride and joy. She was a big supporter of them in every aspect of their life. She was an avid supporter of Laker Lacrosse and Cross Country. She was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and person. She has provided us with a legacy of unconditional love, selflessness, and dedication that will live on in our hearts and souls. Left to keep her legacy alive is her beloved husband of 34 years, Joe; her children, Colleen (Bob) Leader, Kelly Sampson, and Brian Sampson; her cherished granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Leader; her caring siblings, Dr. Kevin (Joan) Carey, Barbara (Bob) Comerford, Patricia (Tom) Hunsicker, Dr. Stephen (Erica) Carey, Sean Carey, and Timothy (Kathy) Carey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 10:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 10 North Pocono Road, Mountain Lakes, NJ, 07046. Memorial Donations can be made in her memory to the Lake Drive Foundation, P.O. Box 155, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046. Please leave a condolence and special memory for her family.
