Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Gantert

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Gantert, 68, of Mt. Arlington, New Jersey suddenly passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016. Betty was born on June 21, 1948 in Montclair, N.J. She was the daughter of George & Elizabeth Mary Cowen formerly of Morris Township, N.J. where she was raised. Betty had attended Bayley-Ellard High School, County College of Morris, and St. Vincent Hospital's Nursing School, and upon graduation became a Registered Nurse. While living at Chestnut Point on Lake Hopatcong since 1978, she and her husband lived an active lifestyle taking in countless sunrises and sunsets, playing fetch with their dogs for whom she had a deep passion, and spent many days boating, swimming, ice skating, and snowmobiling. She also enjoyed gardening and ceramic painting. She was an active member of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, Head of the Lake Hopatcong Women's Auxiliary, appointed to the Lake Hopatcong Commission, and served as a former member of the Mount Arlington Board of Adjustment. Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Richard J. Gantert; her loving sister Helen and her-brother-in Robert Haas; her caring brother-in-law Robert Gantert; her adoring nieces and nephews Linda and her husband Jeff Kacur, Susan Shay, and Robert Gantert and his wife Andrea; her cherished grandnieces and nephews, Samantha, Brian, Emma, and Robert, along with many more relatives and friends. Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 p.m. at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, N.J. 07834. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 17th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake, 9 Rooney Road, Mt. Arlington, N.J. 07856, followed by an internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, N.J. 07936.
