Velma Ruth Nichay passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Majestic Nursing Home in Red Bank. She was 89 years old. Born in Elizabeth, she was raised in Bloomfield. That is where she met and married her soulmate, Nicholas Nichay, who predeceased her in 1986. They both came to Denville to raise their son, Frank. They moved into the home that was built by her father, Howard Wintermute and husband, Nicholas. While in Denville, she became very active in the Denville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the State of New Jersey Ladies Auxiliary, of which she was a member for 60 years. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Denville. She loved to play bingo and spend time in Atlantic City. The biggest joy and most important thing in her life was her family. She treasured being a wife, mother, and especially a grandmother to her three grandsons. They were her pride and joy. She will be forever missed and will live on in our hearts and souls forever. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas and her adored son, Frank, left to keep her legacy alive are her cherished grandsons, Nicholas, Eric, and Matthew Nichay, their mother, Rosella Nichay Matos and her husband Norberto; her dear lifelong friends, Pat and Joan Addison; and many other extended family and friends. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, September 20th at 1:00 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Visitation will take place prior to the Funeral Service from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Please leave a condolence for her family.
