Obituary of Douglas Edward Schweizer

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Edward Schweizer of Raleigh, NC passed away suddenly on September 9, 2016, at the age of 54. Doug was born in Queens, NY, son of Charles Schweizer (deceased) and Carole Schweizer of NC. Doug grew up in Rockaway, NJ and lived in Lake Hopatcong, NJ before moving to Raleigh, NC in 1993. Doug accomplished so much in his short time with us. After graduating from Morris Knolls High School, Doug earned his bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1984. He worked as a Regional Sales Manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific for over 20 years. He was very dedicated to his work. Doug is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy (Warden) Schweizer and his devoted dog Marco who brought him so much joy. Doug and Nancy enjoyed a beautiful marriage and both enjoyed Doug's love of flying. He earned his Private Pilot's License in 1993 and he purchased his own airplane to realize a lifetime dream. Doug and Nancy also enjoyed tandem bicycling. They purchased their first tandem bicycle in July 2015 and within one year had put 2000 miles on it. They both enjoyed the beach and they spent lots of time in their condo at Atlantic Beach, NC swimming in the ocean, having fun and watching beautiful sunsets. Doug was also a dedicated member of the Board of Directors for the Homeowners Association at A Place at The Beach. Doug loved boating and he loved hiking at The Tourne in Denville. Doug had a special love for classic automobiles. He had so much fun driving his 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix locally. While in NM this year, Doug even ventured out on a hot air balloon flight with Nancy. Caring, loving, loyal, happy, kind, funny, smart, dependable and honorable are just some of the many words who could describe Doug. He patiently tolerated and probably secretly admired Nancy's passion for Genealogy. Doug is also survived by mother Carole Schweizer of NC, his sister, Diane Youngman of Fuquay Varina, NC, his mother-in-law Mary Ann Warden of Denville, NJ who will especially miss her "son", sister-in-law, Kathy Cortese and her husband Bill of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, brother-in-law, Jim Warden and his wife Laura of Downingtown, PA, and brother-in-law Tom Warden and his wife Yasmin of Rockaway, NJ. Doug is also survived by 3 nieces and 6 nephews, Drew (and wife Rachel), Brent, Cole and Brooke Youngman, Emily and Lyndsi Cortese, Jimmy Warden, and Tommy and Patrick Warden. Doug had so many friends and he was fortunate to maintain many lifetime friendships. He will be deeply missed by all.
