Philomena (Darcy) McLoughlin of Athens, TN, formerly of West Orange, NJ, passed away on August 15, 2016 at home with family by her side. A Mausoleum service will be held on August 31, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, followed by a celebration of her life at Saint Francis Residential Community. Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, on August 3, 1931, to the late Peter and Ellen, Darcy, Philomena (Mena) immigrated to America in 1953 to live with her brother in East Orange, NJ. That’s where she met her late husband, Patrick (Paddy) McLoughlin, and they married in 1958. Mena and Paddy owned and ran the Franklin Tavern in West Orange for a number of years before retiring to Brick, NJ in 1997. Mena was a devout Catholic and true to her Irish roots. She was a member of the Irish American Society of the Oranges, Women of Irish Heritage and was Deputy Grand Marshal of the West Orange St. Patrick’s Day parade in 1983. Three years ago she moved to Athens, TN with her daughter Elaine and son-in- law. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick, her sister Lucy, her brothers Frank, Sean, Junior and Dennis, survived by her sisters Alice Hearn, Mary Cullen and Gertrude Brady, her son Peter McLoughlin and his wife Susan and her daughters Margaret Stefanelli and her husband Frank, Elaine Benkis and her husband Don and Donna Casserly and her husband John. Mena also leaves her grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle, Christopher, Frank, Taylor, Luke, Mary Emily, Katie, Patricia, Heather Grace, Colleen, Shane, Craig and Rachel, along with her nieces and nephews, Maureen, Denise, Pierre and Jeanne LePochat and many more nieces and nephews that loved their “Auntie Mena” so very much.
