Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert (Bob) Henry - a visionary, husband, father, grandfather, and entrepreneur, sadly passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 surround by his family. Bob attended Newark College of Engineering and proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard as a Quarter Master First Class during WWII. During his service, he operated in coastal defense missions, captured a German submarine and navigated across the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. He married Julie Koch in 1948 and lived an exciting and meaningful life together. Bob was an exceptional entrepreneur along with his wife. They built and successfully operated the Denville Sea, Boat and Sport Center together with family in 1949 in Denville, NJ. He was also the Owner of the Arrowhead Archery Company, part-Owner of the Coastal Sporting Goods Wholesale Company and a licensed Real Estate Agent in the State Million Dollar Club for Weichert Realtors. Bob had a profound impact on the community in Denville. He dedicated his time and energy to ensuring Denville was a great town and funded many community events and charities. He was the Founder, Organizer and the Executive Committee Director of the People’s National Bank of North Jersey, President of the Denville Chamber of Commerce, Organizer of Denville’s Baseball Little League and Chairman and Founder of the Saints Open golf tournament to benefit Saint Claire’s Hospital. Bob’s passion for success in life was surpassed only by his love of sports and his family. Bob was an avid golfer, tennis player, swimmer, snow and water skier, hunter, fisherman, boater, ball room dancer and archer. He belonged to numerous clubs including the Arrowhead Tennis Club, Rockaway River and Cranberry Valley Golf Clubs, Succasunna and Comanche Archery Clubs, Swartswood Lake Fishing Club and many more. He continuously motivated his family to always be the best they could be and taught them all he knew about sports, business and life. His “can do” attitude was an inspiration to them all and helped them get through many slices, faults and slalom ski attempts. His three children, Bobby, Kathie and Patrick, his six adoring grandchildren, Jamie, Erin, Kelly, Shawn, Ryan and Connor, and his great grandchildren, Ellie, Emma, Jack, Paisley and Isabelle, will always carry these memories and special moments in their hearts. The celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at St Mary's Church in Denville. A private interment with military honors will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
