Obituary of Denise Elizabeth McCarthy

Denise E. McCarthy, 84, of Denville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on July 4, 2015. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Denise was the daughter of Margaret (Keller) Hennessy and Maurice Hennessy. She grew up in Union, NJ, and graduated from Douglass College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and Journalism. She and her husband, John, married on June 9, 1956, and shared 58 years together. Denise was dedicated to teaching piano and bringing the gift and joy of music into the lives of many students for over 40 years. Previously, she was a writer and editor at Electrical World magazine. She gave many years of service as an active member of the Music Educators Association, where she served as president, treasurer, publicist and other leadership positions. She also served as president, scholarship committee chair and treasurer of the College Club of Dover. Denise now is reunited with her beloved husband of 58 years, John "Jack" McCarthy, her son John "Jack" McCarthy, Jr, and daughter-in-law Linda McCarthy. She is survived by her adored children, Kevin McCarthy and Denise McCarthy; her cherished grandson Sean McCarthy; her brother Richard Hennessy and his wife Carol; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Virgil's R.C. Church, 250 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, NJ 07950. Burial will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown. Visitation will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, on Friday, July 10th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
