Obituary of Paul Arthur Appel

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul Arthur Appel, 33, passed away at home on Thursday, June 4th. He had just spent an incredible week with his family at his second home in Cape May. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 9th at 10:30 am at St. Catherine of Sienna, Mountain Lakes. Interment to follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery, Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 8th from 4-8 pm at the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in his name to the good work of Employment Horizons, 10 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927, or Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Dept., 1 Rainbow Trail, Denville, NJ 07834. Please go to www.normandean.com to share memories with his family. Born April 11, 1982 in Denville, Paul has had many accomplishments in his short time. He was a participant in the Special Olympics where he won State Championship in Bowling. Since 1999, Paul has been a volunteer Fireman for Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, District Two, Parsippany, for 16 years, where he loved to prepare deviled eggs for monthly meetings and scrambled eggs for monthly drills. He also enjoyed volunteering at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover where he was recently recognized for having over 4,000 accumulated hours of service. He worked at AMC Theater in Rockaway Mall as a ticket taker and greeter, which was, in his own words, "my dream job", and in the past at Genesis Farm in Blairstown. Paul made friends wherever he went. Paul will be missed by many, including his friends at The Grille at Sunset Beach in Cape May. He so enjoyed his time at the shore, where there were miles of flat open space that made it easy for him to maneuver and travel on his own. He leaves many happy memories to his parents, George and Marie; sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and Gary Wheeler; niece Autumn Wheeler; nephew and Godson Owen Wheeler; the following Aunts and Uncles, Wayne and Chris Appel, Joseph Goellner, Gregory & Diane Goellner, Robert & Lillian Goellner, Paula Goellner & Lou Maldonado, Anne & Robert Stack, Joan & William McCullers; numerous cousins; and his devoted and loyal feline Gracie.
