Obituary of Joyce K. Emmons

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Kathryn Emmons (Dobson) passed away Monday, May 25th, at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ, surrounded by her family. She put up a valiant fight during months of illness and will be missed by many. She was 85. Joyce was born in Montclair, NJ and raised in Verona, NJ. After graduating from Verona High School she attended Business School. She worked at Overlook Hospital, Sumco Engineering, for J & B Mechanical, the family business, drove a school bus and later in life, for Thom Mist Automatic Lawn Sprinklers, Denville, NJ. Joyce loved to work and if not for her eye sight, would have continued to work. Joyce was born to Lee Agustas Dobson and Ethna Frances Dobson (Williams) the first of four children. Lee Alan of South Jersey, Marilyn Lee (Landes), New Milford, P.A., and Carol Ann (Ainey) of New Milford, P.A. Joyce was married in 1958 to William ("Bill") Emmons at the Pine Brook Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband and children, Mark A. Emmons and his wife, Debbie of Denville, NJ and Beth Joyce Emmons of Egg Harbor Twsp., NJ and her goddaughter Terry Morris of Denville, NJ. Two sons predeceased her, David Lee Emmons of Loxahatchee, Fl., and Jeffrey Scott Emmons of Pine Brook, NJ. "Momma Joyce" was Grandma to Rachel Lee Fenn (Emmons) and her husband, Rick of Wharton, NJ and David Heise Emmons of Denville, NJ, and Great Grandma to Owen William Fenn. Joyce was a member of the Montville United Methodist Church and sang Alto in the choir. Her sister Marilyn fondly remembers she & Joyce singing duets as children. We all will miss her sense of humor, she often found humor in the most trying of situations and was admired for her courage and strength throughout her lifetime. She was game to do almost anything. She loved time spent at the beloved family cottage at East Lake, New Milford, P.A., and enjoyed years of boating at Chadwick Island Marina. Among her best friends in life were her animals and there were many. Stray, blind, wild, it didn't matter. They all provided many hours of company and enjoyment. They too will miss her. Visitation will take place at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ. on Sunday, May 31st at 11-1 and 3-5 pm. Join us in a Methodist Service, to follow, at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be sent in her memory to Montville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Towaco, N.J. 07080.
